AIAS Milano Onlus (Italian Association for Spastic Care) is a no-profit body which manages social and sanitary services together with various public bodies and also private subjects.

It was created in 1960 to cope with the need of services for disabled citizens with infant cerebral paralysis, a few years after the creation of the national association which today has more than 100 sections in Italy.

After a first stage focused on the mere rehabilitation, at the end of the 70’s it passed on to global rehabilitation services, in order to foster the development of autonomy and a better integration of disabled people in every social context.

Today AIAS Milan is made up of about 800 associates, 100 social assistants, 80 volunteers, and offers to more than 500 disabled people: two rehabilitation centers; 45000 therapies every year; a service for integration at school; a service for employment; hydrotherapy and hippotherapy, computers, the management of the Holiday Counter for Disabled People of Lombardy; Leisure; a service for the creation of help facilities, one for neural-cognitive rehabilitation, one for Personal Projects; a lot of educational activities, both medical-rehabilitative and social/educational.

Il Duomo - MilanAIAS Milan has specialized its activities for more than 10 years in the promotion of integration and autonomy for disabled people as regards leisure and tourism, developing a specific skill in the collection, analysis and widespread of public information for disabled tourists. From 1997 on, AIAS Milan has taken part to three different European projects, aimed at fostering integration of disabled people as concerns employment and also leisure, mobility, and tourism.

AIAS Milan takes part to the project as a specialized body for gathering, analysing and widespreading information for disabled tourists in the last 10 years. In strict contact with the region, AIAS will see to the analysis of the clients’ special needs in Lombardy, and will promote a pilot project aimed at realizing a perspective for accessibility of the transportation network within the region.

AIAS will see to the adjustment and redefinition of the detecting methodology IG VAE, and also to the detection of the accessibility for leisure facilities in Milan.

AIAS will take part to the definition and creation of thematic networks for leisure activities of disabled people. It will prepare a manual with the methods of communicating accessibility to tour operators, and will produce news about tourism/accommodation accessibility for disabled travellers.
